Understanding how viruses cause infection and modulate the immune response has been my main interest. My initial work has been on understanding immune responses to the varicella zoster virus and then I have moved on to understand the immunopathogenesis of dengue infections.
Dengue virus infections can use significant mortality and morbidity in over 100 countries in the world and, is the leading mosquito transmitted infection in Sri Lanka. My main research focus has been 1) the immune correlated of protection against the dengue virus 2) mediators that lead to vascular leak in acute dengue infection 3) cellular immune responses in acute dengue.
