Sister Khanti-Khema

Biography

Sister Khanti-Khema was whose lay name was Louisa Overstreet was Ordained as a Samaneri in Oct 2006 in Dhamma Sukha Mediation centre in Annapolis, Missouri, USA by Bhante Vimalaramsi Mahathera. This was historic event as it is the first ordination of a Woman monastic in America which was officiated by American Born Monk.

Sister Khema has studied with Bhante Vimalaramsi since 2000. She has 16 years of experience with Meditation and Study of Sutta texts. In 2005- 2007 she toured most of the USA assisting Bhante Vimalaramsi to evaluate Buddhism in the USA.

In her capacity of Chairwoman – United International Buddha Dhamma Society, UIBDS she currently is in Sri Lanka to explore the possibility of research in the Meditation called Twim “Tranquil, Wisdom, Insight Meditation”.

      Ven. Khanti Khema was awarded Title ``Sasana Dipika`` from the Sangharaja of Bengladesh. Venerable Dharmeswar had come from Bengladesh and stopped in Missouri to present Ven. Khanti Khema with the title ``Sasana Tilaka``.
